PAI has been serving at-risk children around the world since 2011. We have developed relationships with organizations globally and would like to use these connections to sponsor children in need. Sponsorship is a special kind of giving that creates a relationship between you and a child desperately in need that is irreplaceable.
International Sponsorship at Gentle Hands, Inc. in Manila, Philippines
PROJECT PAG-ASA (HOPE)
An educational sponsorship program through the non profit Gentle Hands in partnership with Progression Athletics International.
Education in the Philippines is FREE. No one is refused the right to enroll. What is NOT free, however, are the uniforms, shoes, school bags, notebooks, pens, and textbooks that each child is required to have in order to go to school. Each child must have a lunch and there is the cost of transportation to get to school. The heat and rain make walking almost impossible. For a country that says it’s literacy rate is 85 percent and sends thousands of educated Filipinos to work abroad every year, the average child faces unbelievable hurdles in an attempt to get an education.
• Classrooms number 50 to 60 children with not enough desks and chairs
• The classroom provides NO books, NO school supplies, NO resource materials
• Sometimes there is not even an electric fan to combat the stifling heat
• Teachers are overworked, underpaid and still use corporal punishment for unfinished projects.
Each year, Gentle Hands tries to provide individual sponsorship for the children placed in their custody and are waiting to be adopted. They also sponsor children from the very poorest families in a struggling community. Choose a child to support and help us give them another year of HOPE. We will provide each sponsor with basic information on the child and report quarterly on his or her progress in school. You can send letters of encouragement as well as school supplies and play an active role in helping a child go to school.
