Mission: Increase basketball players’ individual skills through dedicated, knowledgeable and passionate basketball instruction.
Philosophy: We seek to improve players’ individual skills through progression skill training and positive reinforcement.
Experience: Our founder, Shane Hanson, has personally worked with over 4,000 youth since 2006 and traveled around the world teaching basketball. In 2011, the U.S. Embassy in Serbia asked Shane to run a 10 day international peace program using basketball to teach life skills to youth in the former region of Yugoslavia. He was an All-State basketball player in high school and accepted a Division 1 scholarship. He briefly played basketball in 4 countries following his college career and officially retired in 2011 due to a back injury. He now lives in Simi Valley, CA with his wife Kayla and two kids (Parker and Trey).

I have been training with Coach Shane Hanson to help prepare for high school basketball try-outs. Training with Coach Shane is very intense and challenging, but most importantly, it is fun and effective. I am the starting point guard for my club basketball team and I wanted additional training that focused on improving my individual point guard skills to help me become a better contributor for my team. Coach Shane’s ability to pin-point areas of improvement and his Progression Skills Training and Drills have helped me develop into a more confident player/leader on the court. I am now stronger physically and mentally and the training with Coach Shane is a major factor in helping me to make my high school basketball team. I am now looking forward to the start of the season and seeing what new challenges will arise at the high school level. I feel confident that I will be able to do my job as a point guard because Coach Shane Hanson will continue to prepare me with the necessary tools to be the best player that I can be on the court! – Tyler Chu, Point Guard – Thousand Oaks, CA
The benefits of advanced skill training
1. Individual Attention
Although basketball is undeniably a team sport; private and small group training allows athletes the ability to work on their weaknesses while developing and improving strengths. Players have unique characteristics, skill sets and athletic abilities. One-on-one and small group training allows each individual to work at their own speed and learning curve; equaling faster results.
2. Personalized Workouts
Progression Athletics will evaluate your current skill level, asses your strength/weaknesses, develop a personalized practice plan and continually push players to improve. Customizing workouts squeezes the most out of training by addressing the needs and wants of each individual.
3. Quality Repetition
We focus on fundamentals, footwork, proper form, core balance and other essential basketball techniques which differentiates good, quality repetitions, from bad. We will always make sure that each drill is being executed properly so players benefit the most from each workout and continue practicing on their own following the session.
4. Quantity Repetition
We create our drills to offer high repetitions, in a short time frame for maximum results. Players are given the opportunity to learn, develop and improve individual skills that are needed to succeed on the team level.
5. Professional Instruction
Our coaches played at both the college and professional ranks so offer personal expertise. This offers the trust that not only are we coaching but we can back it up with our basketball experience. We promote self-confidence, competition and leadership in various forms to not only expand athletic skills but also life skills.
